Krank’d Body Fuel Energy Drink Review – Excellent hybrid sports drink, and Peach Tea was the most surprising flavor of the four we tried.

In its marketing materials, Krank’d claims to have “created its own category.” In the flooded energy drink market, that’s a big claim to make. I think they have a right to say this, more so than any other drink I’ve tried in recent future. This isn’t the straight caffeine / taurine blast of a NOS, and it isn’t a water / high fructose corn syrup hybrid in a sports bottle. It’s Gatorade’s smarter, healthier cousin. The 7-in-1 on the label refers to B-vitamins, essential minerals, electrolytes, antioxidants, l-glutamine for muscle repair / recovery, reverse osmosis water, and a “tri-carb blend” for “time-released energy.” Bottom line, this was a nice addition to my day, resulting in a smooth energy with no high or low. Don’t expect to feel a big power boost though. If you are hitting the weights today, this would be the perfect drink to bring along.

Be sure to drink this one cold. That said, we didn’t know what to expect from an energy drink / sports drink – in a peach tea flavor. It’s really good. It’s a little like those gummy peach ring candies, and it has a heavy, full taste. You can tell it’s flavored with sucralose, there’s no bitterness. It’s impressive to note all that’s included in this drink while enjoying the sweet tea flavor.

A standout. Krank’d Body Fuel is sweetened with sucralose (ie Splenda) instead of high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. There are 6g of sugar and 37 calories per bottle. There’s niacin and caffeine included, but not more than you’d want. I can drink this one guilt-free any time.

Krank’d Body Fuel is highly recommended for the highly athletic, as a regular addition to your diet. The Peach Tea flavor was the EDB team’s favorite. If you’re more interested in occasional power in a can, look elsewhere for a bigger boost or better taste.

AMMO After Dark Energy Drink Review – Stay up, stay low carb, and we like the blue razz favor.

AMMO gets credit for brilliance in the Power department. While some energy drinks have more caffeine, few pack so much into a 1 fluid OZ bottle. They also came up with a caffeine rationing system. A scale on the side of the bottle that lets you see how many milligrams of caffeine you’ve consumed, up to the full 171 mg. It works too, whether you ration it or shoot it all at once. A bottle of AMMO woke me effectively today.

The After Dark flavor is actually blue raspberry. Now, the couple testers are admitted fans of blue raspberry, so maybe they’re a little prejudiced here, but they gave a good report on the flavor. It has a bit of bite like the Citrus Ice flavor, but it’s easy to shoot or mix in a glass of water. It just naturally won’t be as delicious as the sugar-filled, staple convenience store options.

Each of the drinks are labeled with “Low Carb”, which is fair. 7g sugar, 25 calories. This is far more diet-friendly and healthy than a Rock Star or Full Throttle, and it delivers about the same caffeine kick.

Unlike 5 Hour Energy & clones, AMMO works well as a mixer – even stirring it into water creates a decent drink. Their marketing angle is that this was developed originally for the US military. I’ll buy that. The testers reported no jitters and no crash, as the box claims. Of all the drinks I’ve tried, AMMO is the one I’d most like to bring on a backpacking trip, for all the reasons above. I’ll be ready to rock and roll. Any flavor will do.

The Extreme Sport drink is Fruit Punch flavored. The testers enjoyed this one better straight thank mixed into water. It’s easy to down, but doesn’t give you the enjoyment of a larger, sugary energy drink. There’s always a slight cost to the portability and health of the smaller drinks. But I’ll tell you – this and the other AMMO drinks are better tasting than the 5-hour Energy Drink clones. Way more fun.

A bottle of AMMO woke me effectively today.

The Purple Dragon drink is grape-flavored, as you might expect. At EDB, we’re suckers for a good grape energy drink. Now, being a condensed low-carb drink, it wasn’t as enjoyable as a sugar-filled grape NOS. But I did enjoy the grape, straight and diluted in water. It’s easy to drink and possibly my favorite of the AMMO flavors.

Each of the drinks are labeled with “Low Carb”, which is fair. 7g sugar, 25 calories. This is far more diet-friendly and healthy than a Rock Star or Full Throttle, and it delivers about the same caffeine kick.

AMMO Full Force Energy Drink Review – A shortcut to an action-packed day, just 25 calories. This citrus flavor has the most bite of the bunch.

The Citrus Ice has a bite to it, but not the obnoxious energy drink formula taste. It’s a little more like a bit of lemon and lime juice mixed. I recommend mixing this one, with water or any creative liquid option. For me, it wasn’t as deliciously enjoyable as a sugar-filled Monster – naturally. It’s definitely still easy to drink and the couple testers of this flavor are fans.

Krank’d Body Fuel Energy Drink Review – Excellent hybrid sports drink, and the grape flavor is very enjoyable.

The EDB team has historically had an affinity for grape-flavored energy drinks. This one’s no exception. It could be that grape masks all the less-tasty but powerful ingredients thrown into these drinks. Try the Body Fuel Grape drink during a workout, and try to restrain yourself from chugging the whole bottle down. It’s not easy to make this one last!

The Grape flavor is great. If you’re more interested in occasional power in a can, look elsewhere for a bigger boost or better taste.

I am a fan of fruit punch-flavored drinks, for the most part. This one was a little disappointing. Perhaps due to the minimal sugar, but this is a far cry from the sweet fruit punch that I was expecting. It’s a bit like fruit punch watered down, with a little bite to it. On the hand, if you’re using the drink for the ideal purpose, during a quick break from pumping iron and running hard, it’ll taste just fine.

Allday Energy Drink Review – finally, there’s an energy shot that won’t make you gag.

As always, the boost you’re going to get depends on your caffeine tolerance. They’ve packed the usual energy components into this shot, and it will pick you up. If you like the idea of a 2 oz. shot of energy, you can’t do better that this one. I noticed that I had more energy and was more alert for several hours. However, if you’re typically drinking NOS or two Monsters with breakfast, you won’t feel much.

Maybe my expectations were really low due to prior experience with energy shots. I was pleasantly surprised by this drink. Now, it’s not an enjoyable drink by any means. You probably wouldn’t find me lounging around on a sailboat sipping Allday. But it’s a smooth, somewhat plum-flavored shot, that goes down easier than most 5 Hour Energy clones.

Allday inspired us to make a change here at EDB. While for 4 years, we’ve focused only on the energy and taste these drinks provide, we realized we are missing a vital component. Is it fair to kill Allday in the final rating because it doesn’t taste as good as a Monster, when it clocks in at 0 calories, 0 sugar – and Monster has a 54 grams of sugar? Allday is fairly non-harmful, but at that same time, doesn’t offer some of vitamins and other helpful supplements found in competing drinks.

Allday provides a decent boost, with minimal sacrifice to taste, at a much lower cost to your body’s health (if you’re concerned about such a thing.)

EnergyDrinksBlog Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
