The flavor is a light, berry flavor – just sweet enough, without the liquid candy corn feeling you might get half way through a regular Monster.

No special points for health – 44g of sugar per 16oz can, standard ingredients.

After some reflection, we’ve decided that we are fans of the Liquid Lightning line-up.

It’s an important and involved decision, really. A recurring theme in most energy drink reviews is whether a drink can stand out in an incredibly crowded marketplace.

Liquid Lightning has now achieved this, with their current can design, flavor, and energy boost. The can design makes the drink feel premium – maybe it’s just me – but it felt like what you’d get served in an ultra-hip nightclub.

Golazo Energy Drink Review – take care of business on the field! And take care of your health at the same time.

Golazo is an All Natural option for a nice boost that certainly fits an athlete’s needs, as it’s designed to. It’s not a stay-up-all-night-and-party-hard drink. Golazo has 100mg of natural caffeine, as well as Yerba Mate leaf extract, and guarana.

When you create a drink with 21g of sugar, you’re taking a chance. You haven’t caught the eye of the dieters, because you can’t claim “10 Calories” or “Sugar Free.” On the other hand, if you sell to an energy drink fan with a sweet tooth, it’s not going to be enjoyed like a Pit Bull or a DareDevil. It tastes almost watered down compared to it’s more sugar-loaded counterparts.

There are three flavors and each taste like a dilluted version of what’s described on the can. However, we have to look at this in the context of what’s promised by the brand – this is a drink for the game of soccer. To put it more broadly, this is a drink for people who play hard.

I can attest to this: the flavor works when you’re really thirsty. And when you’re pushing your body to the limit on the field, you’re going to need the electrolytes, the B vitamins, and the caffeine boost – which is substantial but not ridiculous.

Golazo scores high points as healthy drink. We like to see cane sugar and Stevia instead of HFCS. It’s a smaller can than Monster or Rock Star, but still has less sugar per fluid OZ. It’s all natural and as noted above, tastes fine.

We wish the taste could be improved a little, but we appreciate that the drink is healthy, hydrating, and energizing. Also, it sounds like this drink was conceptualized in Seattle and is bottled in Portland – which also scores big points in our book.

Pit Bull Energy Drink Review – Great taste, standard boost.

Power is not where Pit Bull makes it’s mark. In a comparison of energy drinks at your local gas station, the ingredients are almost the same across most of the cans, and Pit Bull isn’t an exception with 160mg of caffeine and 1500mg of Taurine.

The original has a lemonlime ginger ale taste – as described on the can- and as I sip on one right now, I’m impressed. It’s easy to drink, it’s refreshing, and it’s not another Red Bull clone (despite the suspiciously similar name.) We recommend that you try each of the flavors. They are as unique and refreshing as they sound: Pomegranate Blueberry, Cherry Lime, Cranberry Pink Grapefruit.

Pit Bull has 54g – 56g of sugar depending on the flavor, and besides B vitamins for energy, no added vitamins or nutritional value. From a healthy living standpoint, these drinks are great for an occasional treat, but check out the sugar free version for a healthier alternative.

We’re a fan of the Pit Bull line up. By the name, you might think this is another Red Bull ripoff – but Pit Bull actually offers some refreshing variations on the standard citrus flavors.

BAZI Energy Drink Review – Stay awake and stay healthy!

Bazi offers a fresh approach to the energy shot. Instead of loading the drink with caffeine, they’ve loaded this drink with “superfruits” – jujube, blueberry, goji, mangosteen, raspberry, pomegranate, açai, and seabuckthorn. So, does it work as well as, say, a 5-hour Enery Shot? It definitely provides a boost, a smooth but light increase in physical energy and mental clarity. It’s not going to help you kick your day in high gear after getting fours of sleep at night. But if you’re not a caffeine addict – or you’re trying to kick the habit – this a great choice for quick pick-me-up during the day.

It’s not delicious, but then again, we’ve tried much worse. Ever had a Flintstone’s Kids chewable vitamin? This is similar combination of sweet berry and a slight sour, perhaps citrus, bite at the end, but it doesn’t gag you, and we’ve prefer the taste to the standard 5-hour energy shot. It’s not carbonated, and it’s easy to chug it down.

You shouldn’t be sleeping four hours a night anyway. Also, getting your energy drink high fructose corn syrup isn’t so great either. OK, enough from your mother. These fruits offer additional health benefits as well, so check out their website if you’re looking for a well-rounded energy & vitamin option.

If you’re working on a health-conscious diet, Bazi is a great choice for a daily boost. I see it as an energy drink for the 30+ age group, when you start to care about getting less sugar and more antioxidants and nutrients.

Krank’d Body Fuel Energy Drink Review – Excellent hybrid sports drink, and Peach Tea was the most surprising flavor of the four we tried.

In its marketing materials, Krank’d claims to have “created its own category.” In the flooded energy drink market, that’s a big claim to make. I think they have a right to say this, more so than any other drink I’ve tried in recent future. This isn’t the straight caffeine / taurine blast of a NOS, and it isn’t a water / high fructose corn syrup hybrid in a sports bottle. It’s Gatorade’s smarter, healthier cousin. The 7-in-1 on the label refers to B-vitamins, essential minerals, electrolytes, antioxidants, l-glutamine for muscle repair / recovery, reverse osmosis water, and a “tri-carb blend” for “time-released energy.” Bottom line, this was a nice addition to my day, resulting in a smooth energy with no high or low. Don’t expect to feel a big power boost though. If you are hitting the weights today, this would be the perfect drink to bring along.

Be sure to drink this one cold. That said, we didn’t know what to expect from an energy drink / sports drink – in a peach tea flavor. It’s really good. It’s a little like those gummy peach ring candies, and it has a heavy, full taste. You can tell it’s flavored with sucralose, there’s no bitterness. It’s impressive to note all that’s included in this drink while enjoying the sweet tea flavor.

A standout. Krank’d Body Fuel is sweetened with sucralose (ie Splenda) instead of high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. There are 6g of sugar and 37 calories per bottle. There’s niacin and caffeine included, but not more than you’d want. I can drink this one guilt-free any time.

Krank’d Body Fuel is highly recommended for the highly athletic, as a regular addition to your diet. The Peach Tea flavor was the EDB team’s favorite. If you’re more interested in occasional power in a can, look elsewhere for a bigger boost or better taste.

AMMO After Dark Energy Drink Review – Stay up, stay low carb, and we like the blue razz favor.

AMMO gets credit for brilliance in the Power department. While some energy drinks have more caffeine, few pack so much into a 1 fluid OZ bottle. They also came up with a caffeine rationing system. A scale on the side of the bottle that lets you see how many milligrams of caffeine you’ve consumed, up to the full 171 mg. It works too, whether you ration it or shoot it all at once. A bottle of AMMO woke me effectively today.

The After Dark flavor is actually blue raspberry. Now, the couple testers are admitted fans of blue raspberry, so maybe they’re a little prejudiced here, but they gave a good report on the flavor. It has a bit of bite like the Citrus Ice flavor, but it’s easy to shoot or mix in a glass of water. It just naturally won’t be as delicious as the sugar-filled, staple convenience store options.

Each of the drinks are labeled with “Low Carb”, which is fair. 7g sugar, 25 calories. This is far more diet-friendly and healthy than a Rock Star or Full Throttle, and it delivers about the same caffeine kick.

Unlike 5 Hour Energy & clones, AMMO works well as a mixer – even stirring it into water creates a decent drink. Their marketing angle is that this was developed originally for the US military. I’ll buy that. The testers reported no jitters and no crash, as the box claims. Of all the drinks I’ve tried, AMMO is the one I’d most like to bring on a backpacking trip, for all the reasons above. I’ll be ready to rock and roll. Any flavor will do.

The Extreme Sport drink is Fruit Punch flavored. The testers enjoyed this one better straight thank mixed into water. It’s easy to down, but doesn’t give you the enjoyment of a larger, sugary energy drink. There’s always a slight cost to the portability and health of the smaller drinks. But I’ll tell you – this and the other AMMO drinks are better tasting than the 5-hour Energy Drink clones. Way more fun.

A bottle of AMMO woke me effectively today.

The Purple Dragon drink is grape-flavored, as you might expect. At EDB, we’re suckers for a good grape energy drink. Now, being a condensed low-carb drink, it wasn’t as enjoyable as a sugar-filled grape NOS. But I did enjoy the grape, straight and diluted in water. It’s easy to drink and possibly my favorite of the AMMO flavors.

The Citrus Ice has a bite to it, but not the obnoxious energy drink formula taste. It’s a little more like a bit of lemon and lime juice mixed. I recommend mixing this one, with water or any creative liquid option. For me, it wasn’t as deliciously enjoyable as a sugar-filled Monster – naturally. It’s definitely still easy to drink and the couple testers of this flavor are fans.

The EDB team has historically had an affinity for grape-flavored energy drinks. This one’s no exception. It could be that grape masks all the less-tasty but powerful ingredients thrown into these drinks. Try the Body Fuel Grape drink during a workout, and try to restrain yourself from chugging the whole bottle down. It’s not easy to make this one last!

The Grape flavor is great. If you’re more interested in occasional power in a can, look elsewhere for a bigger boost or better taste.
